Scene of the Week: Supermarket Sweep
After his star making performance as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, it would have been easy for the hulking Dolph Lundgren to fall into the Hollywood type casting trap, finding himself playing the bad guy for the remainder of his acting career.
Fortunately for Dolph, he was able to successfully transition from villain to hero in movies like Red Scorpion, I Come in Peace and Masters of the Universe.
However when called upon Dolph is always able to return to his evil roots. This was the case in 1992’s Universal Soldier, starring opposite action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme. I believe that Dolph’s ability to effectively play both a hero and a villain in action movies is underrated.
This week’s Scene of the Week spotlights one of the most memorable scenes from Universal Soldier and the career of Dolph Lundgren. In Universal Soldier, Dolph plays Sgt. Andrew Scott, a soldier who died while serving in Vietnam, who then found himself a human guinea pig for the government’s Universal Soldier program. Our Scene of the Week finds Scott as he is having some serious ‘Nam flashbacks in the middle of a small town supermarket…
