Scene of the Week: Highlander: Endgame
Highlander Endgame was the fourth movie of the series and the first to co-star Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul; one being the Macleod of the Highlander movie series and the other being the TV version of the Macleod immortals. They met once on the pilot of the TV show and it was pretty cool to see both of them in the same world but this movie is more of a “passing of the torch” or in this case more a “passing of the sword” from one Macleod to the next. Lambert was getting noticeably older by this time and Adrian Paul had a much higher upside when it came to action scenes so it was nice to see Lambert give Paul the nod. It’s unfortunate that this would be the final decent movie in the series as Highlander: The Source turned out to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I mean, Highlander 2 was pure garbage and The Source may have been worse. So you see it is weird that the series has had such a mixture of great (Highlander), good (Highlander 3, Highlander Endgame), and garbage (Highlander 2, Highlander: The Source) movies.
The scene below is one of my favorites of the film. It has Adrian Paul facing off against a gang of evil immortals before finally going mano-a-mano with the amazing Donnie Yen. Yen choreographed the fight scene and it is easy to tell cause this scene is far better than any other fight scenes in the series. Yen could make a good fight scene with a table lamp so working with the ever capable Adrian Paul was no problem, I’m sure. It’s a shame that Yen’s character, and the other immortals with him are so underused but this scene is still pretty sweet and it deserves to be my Scene of the Week!
