Scene of the Week: They Live
When The Brain and I decided on a blueprint for the weekly postings for the site I knew right away that one of my Scene of the Weeks was going to be this brawl from the John Carpenter classic They Live. With our love for all things professional wrestling you’ll notice that we take every opportunity we can to watch movies featuring some of the greatest grapplers of all time and They Live is by far one of the most entertaining movies featuring one of the most entertaining wrestlers of all time; “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.
The fight scene featured here was initially only supposed to last twenty seconds but actors Roddy Piper and Keith David really wanted to go all out so they rehearsed the fight for three weeks in the backyard of John Carpenter’s production office, feigning only the shots to the face and groin, and in the end Carpenter was so impressed that he kept the nearly 6 minute scene complete in the films final cut. I think he was smart to do so. If you haven’t seen the movie or by some chance have never seen the fight scene then you are in for a real treat as these two men beat the living shit out of each other. Enjoy!
