The Checklist: Knight Rider (S2 Ep17) “Speed Demons”
The Checklist is back and so are Michael Knight and K.I.T.T. In this installment of The Checklist we will put an episode from the 2nd season of the popular 1980’s series to the test. The title of this particular episode is Speed Demons and it was the 17th episode of season 2.
- Synopsis: Michael Knight attends a charity motorcycle race that is sponsored by his bosses at FLAG (The Foundation for Law And Government). But Michael is not just there to enjoy the race, he’s investigating a murder that happened at the race last year.
1. Were there any notable guest stars?
Kurt Fuller played a cameraman covering the race for a local television station. Follow my logic here… in 1984 Fuller plays a cameraman at a local network affiliate on this episode of Knight Rider. In 1987 he is working on the production team of the #1 show on television, The Running Man. Then two years after that he is running an entire network in No Holds Barred. That’s climbing the ranks of the TV industry in quick fashion.
Another familiar face to action fans would be that of Michael Champion. You may remember Michael from such action films as Total Recall, Beverly Hills Cop and Toy Soldiers. 1/1
2. Did Michael Knight mack on the woman he was helping?
Michael was on his best behavior on this one, despite the female in question being Lydia Cornell from Too Close For Comfort fame. I guess when there is a chance her character could have been a murderer it was best to keep his distance. 1/2
3. Was an innocent bystander confused by K.I.T.T.?
One of the two newscasters covering the charity race, Roger Floyd, is not having a good broadcast. His female partner is upstaging him every chance she gets and then he thinks he’s gone crazy after kicking K.I.T.T.’s tire and K.I.T.T. reprimanding him for it. Once he comes to grips with the fact that K.I.T.T. is actually a talking car and he hasn’t lost his mind (up in there, up in there), he calls his cameraman (Kurt Fuller) over to witness this amazing technological breakthrough but of course K.I.T.T. says nothing. Ohhh K.I.T.T. you may have artificial intelligence but you have real humor. 2/3
4. Did Michael Knight communicate with K.I.T.T. via his watch phone?
There was no need for the watch phone in this episode, if Michael wasn’t near K.I.T.T. he was not in any kind of danger. In fact, Michael and K.I.T.T. actually participate in the motorcycle race… don’t worry, they were disqualified since K.I.T.T. isn’t a motorcycle. 2/4
5. Was K.I.T.T.’s Turbo Boost button used?
The Turbo Boost was used on three different occasions. The first time was over a semi-truck. The second over some water. And last but not least over Devon Miles! In this episode we learn that Devon was something of a speed demon himself in his younger days… but he isn’t faster than K.I.T.T. 3/5
- Final Score = 3/5 (60%) – This episode barely crossed the finish line.
