Scene of the Week: Point Break – Keanu/Swayze = Tag Champs!
There may not be a better scene anywhere on Earth featuring Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers being beaten up on a beach by Ted Theodore Logan. It’s always been a dream of mine to get jumped by a gang of thugs only to have Patrick Swayze show up for the save. I figured that we’d high five, maybe grab a sandwich afterwards, and go our separate ways never to see each other again. Unfortunately, Swayze is playing Twister with the man in black (Bogus!) so I’m afraid my fight with Warchild and the gang wouldn’t go nearly as well as the one in the video below.
The real reason this scene was on my mind was the first trailer for the new Point Break remake splashed down this past week and while I won’t be linking it here, you can check it out on Youtube by searching it the old fashioned way. I’m not linking it because I found it hilariously bad and one of the most unnecessary remakes in the history of horrible remakes. The original Point Break is such a product of the time it was made in that even trying to make it nowadays is going to lead to some of the most massive plot holes since Tim Burton made that shitty Planet of the Apes featuring that talentless hack Mark Wahlberg. “Hey, you’re Johnny Utah! You were a QB for Ohio State before a big injury ended your football career!” A simple Google search probably would have led you to him now being in the F.B.I. End of movie.
What I’m trying to say is please do not give any money to this attempted money grab for nostalgia’s sake. Just pop in your Bluray copy of the original Point Break and watch a movie that is amazing just the way it is.
