The Essentials: Blood Sucking Vampire Movies
You won’t find any of that sissy Twilight bullshit or the boring existence of all those pretty-haired fairies in the Anne Rice novels, we only deal in ACTION here at Bulletproof Action so that’s exactly what I’m gonna give to you. Put on a crucifix, dab some garlic on your neck, and get out your wooden stakes cause these are my favorite action packed vampire flicks!
Lost Boys
Lost Boys is the type of movie that will probably end up on most people’s lists but maybe more for nostalgia sake than anything else. Don’t get me wrong, it is a really fun movie. The cast is great, the music is unforgettable and it is one of the few horror/action films with a bunch of teenagers who aren’t annoying as hell. If you love the 80’s you’ll be in heaven and if you’re not a fan of the decade you’ll probably puke your guts out from just how 80’s this film is.
Near Dark
If you’re looking for a couple of vamps to scare you shitless before they suck you dry then look no further than Kathryn Bigelow’s classic Near Dark. It’s a coming of age romance that also has Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen murdering their way across small town America and dropping great lines like “Howdy. I’ m gonna separate your head from your shoulders. Hope you don’t mind none.”
30 Days of Night
In the same decade that made the Twilight series a massive hit 30 Days of Night succeeded in scaring the bejesus out of everyone and bringing the balls back to the classically evil and bloodthirsty vampire. No glitter or girly shit here; unless you mean a sexy Melissa George killing vampires with an axe. There is some of that.
From Dusk till Dawn
What can I say about From Dusk till Dawn that I already haven’t said or that this picture of Salma Hayek can’t say for me?
Daybreakers
Before Ethan Hawke found himself in the middle of The Purge, he was a good-hearted vampire with plans on hopefully ending the disease and getting back to the way it used to be. I mean, what do the vampires do when almost the entire human race is gone? It also has a crossbow wielding Willem Dafoe on the cover. That was enough for me to give it a try.
Underworld
Do you wanna watch Kate Beckinsale fly around on wires while wearing skin-tight leather? Probably. If you’re reading this site you most likely share certain interests with us here at Bulletproof Action and one of our biggest interests is hot chicks in tight clothes. That should probably be on our mission statement if we ever get around to writing one of those. Well, in Underworld, Becks steely gaze and pearly white skin take on the werewolves they are seemingly destined to fight forever. Can’t we all just get along?
John Carpenter’s Vampires
You may not remember that James Woods starred in this action flick from John Carpenter but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that it was one of my favorite vampire killing movies ever made! Sheryl Lee was wicked hot, Thomas Ian Griffith played a great villain, and James Woods had one of the best action hero names ever; Jack Crow. I love the back story with the Catholic Church hunting down these bloodsuckers and the action really gets intense in the end. A must see!
Blade
If you ask most people which movie it was that started this whole crazy comic book craze then they’ll most likely say Spider-man, or the really stupid people will say Iron Man. Either way, they’d be wrong because even before Spidey came out Wesley Snipes was offing fools and dropping killer one liners all while wearing some dope shades and carrying a serious Oedipus complex. Kris Kristofferson is so great as his sidekick that they had to bring him back from the dead for the sequel. Do yourself a favor and skip the third one. It’s pure shit.
