Woman Crush Wednesday: Joanne Whalley
The beautiful Joanne Whalley was all the rage in the late 80’s and early 90’s. If you were to fast forward to the present you most likely would have expected her to be a massive star by now but it just wasn’t meant to be. That isn’t to say that Whalley hasn’t made a fine career for herself. She has continued to take on roles that suit her very well. She’s played in many period piece dramas in recent years but it’s her days starring alongside bonafide action stars like Michael Biehn, and Val Kilmer that I remember her most fondly for.
While Michael Biehn, Charlie Sheen, and that guy from the insurance commercials do all the fighting, if it wasn’t for the hot reporter who breaks the story and sends our boys on a chase against the terrorists the ending of this film would most likely have been much different. So who is the real hero here? Is it the Navy SEALS team who rescues American hostages in Beirut or is the reporter who typed up the story? Ok, it was probably the SEALS but without Whalley and her 100 words per minutes typing skills they would have been shit out of luck.
That isn’t the only Joanne Whalley that graced my screen last week as I also took in one of my favorite fantasy films of all time Willow! You may remember Whalley as playing the daughter of the evil Queen Bavmorda named Sorcha. Her dark brown hair was dyed bright red for the role, a bit of trivia that I hadn’t known for many years. Her ginger locks had me loving the red-heads back then. Now I know it was all just a lie…
She did, however, meet her now ex-husband Val Kilmer on the set of Willow and I think that Val said it best when he said “you are my sun, my moon, my shining star. Without you I dwell in darkness.”
I spilt so much milk over Joanne it’s a wonder the dairy industry didn’t go out of business.
Two Chads, one mind.
