Scene of the Week: William Wallace gets his revenge
As an action movie lover, Braveheart always puts a smile on my face but as a historian it never fails to bring a tear in my eye. The producers of the film had a pretty good idea of what they were doing when they created this mostly fictional account of the Scottish nobleman William Wallace. Even Mel Gibson thought that he was too old to be playing the twenty-something Wallace but the film wouldn’t have been made without the starpower of the Lethal Weapon star. It is said that probably 90% of the film is un-factual but don’t let that deter you from remembering the point the film is trying to make: Mel Gibson can bang any chick he wants and gory and grotesque medieval warfare can solve any of life’s problems.
