Fan Theories That Kinda/Sorta Work
One of the great things about movies is the way that we can all be watching the same film but be “seeing” them in completely different ways. In fact, people love to talk about how they “called it” on movies with twists in them. The moment pictures and clips from movies appear online dumbshit bloggers like to speculate on each and every detail. Sometimes it can be fun; will we see Aquaman appear in the new Batman vs Superman, will Jesse Eisenberg be playing Lex or Lex Jr., will Ben Affleck’s butt-chin give away the fact that he’s Batman? The answers to each of those questions will present themselves in time but when they do you can be sure that fans of the film will be debating and picking apart every single scene in order to find some wild theory to strap on. Here are a handful of theories that are either interesting for their potential merit or because they’re just plain bat-shit crazy.
The Dark Knight Rises – Bane is a hero
Yes Bane broke Batman’s back and threw him into a pit while he destroyed Gotham City. That doesn’t appear to be the work of a hero but if you dig down deeper into the character that we’re presented, Bane doesn’t seem to be as bad as we thought. He was kicked out of the League of Shadows, the same group that Batman helped to destroy. Bane obviously had a deep emotional connection to Talia and saving her from probably being murdered by the other prisoners means he wasn’t such a bad dude. Then, Bane put into effect a series of events that reinstated Bruce Wayne’s confidence and turned him back into the Batman. Then he showed him what his weaknesses were and once again put him into position to “heal” himself and save his city. All of this being accomplished, Batman was also able to become a legendary character in the city instead of the vigilante that he was before. All thanks to Bane.
Tim Burton’s Batman – The Joker didn’t really kill the Wayne Family.
This theory is pretty cool. Many of us fans have always hated that in the orginal Batman film The Joker is the one who killed Bruce’s parents instead of just some lowlife thug. This theory states that instead of the young Joker being the one to kill his parents it was actually just some guy but that Batman’s intense focus on justice means that he projects that each criminal that he meets is the man or woman who killed his parents. That’s why he’s so hardcore when it comes to stopping crime.
James Bond Isn’t A Real Person
You may have heard this one several times already but it’s pretty simple; James Bond isn’t an actual dudes name but instead a codename. That’s why there have been so many people playing the character. It hasn’t been random guys in different timeframes but instead one continuous tale of a secret agent’s position being filled by several different guys. Notice how other characters like M and Q have changed mid-movie?
The Rock – Sean Connery is James Bond
Whether that other theory is correct or not this one is still a fun one to believe it. Sean Connery’s character John Mason is actually 007 himself. That would mean that while spying he was captured by The United States and imprisoned for a long time. That would explain why he had all those secrets and the ability to be such a badass at the drop of a hat.
Inception – Cobb’s totem
While the focus of most of the film is on whether or not what is happening is in the real world or the not-so-real world, the idea of each of the people having a totem lends this theory credence. The spinning top wasn’t actually Cobb’s totem. His was his wedding ring. He can be seen wearing it while in the dream world but not wearing it in the real world. Does he have it on at the end of the film? You’ll have to watch it to find out.
Robocop – Robocop is Jesus
This one is pretty simple, the shiny gun-toting law enforcement agent is actually Jesus Christ. He did die and return from the dead to save the people from evil. Director Paul Verhoeven himself said that it was a “Christ story”, even going so far as to show Robocop walk over water at the end of the film.
Well that’s just a few of the theories that I’ve run across that weren’t completely stupid. Tell us in the comments what your favorite fan theories are.
