Tough Chicks: Olivia Thirlby – Judge Dredd
I may not be an expert on the sci-fi magazine 2000 AD, which the character of Judge Dredd came from, but I know a damn good action movie when I see it and this version of Judge Dredd will kick your ass and do it with a smile… well, I guess it’s more like a snarl.
When Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), the Judge in training, first gets introduced to Dredd (Karl Urban) it is only a matter of time before we see Dredd having to save her ass from gettin’ killed. What you wouldn’t expect is for Anderson to go HAM on some druggie thugs and actually save Dredd’s ass a time or two.
My only prior knowledge of Thirlby before Dredd is as Ellen Page’s friend from Juno and believe it or not she didn’t kill anyone in that movie. The same can’t be said about her in this movie. Just look at this picture of Olivia and try to picture her being a kick ass psychic with no problem laying down the law.
Yep, same chick.
So what we end up getting in Judge Dredd is an expertly crafted action film that is relentlessly paced from start to finish. Thirlby keeps up with Dredd for most of the film and you’re not likely to find many movie with two chicks as badass as Anderson and villain Ma-Ma are.
