Tough Chicks: Black Widow
During the course of Iron Man 2, the character of Black Widow went through a couple of changes but she never broke through until her performance in 2012’s The Avengers. The fact that her character was so poorly fleshed out in Iron Man 2 didn’t keep fans from rooting for her when she appeared for the second time but it also didn’t hurt that the first time we are re-acquainted with her she is tied up and bursting out of a tank top. That scene, where she nonchalantly kicks the bejeezus out of some Russians while tied to a chair, also solidified the fact that she is a kickass fighter to go along with her already impressive spy skills.
When it came out that Scarlett Johansson would reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff in Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, there was a bit of confusion as to how she would fit in with the story. Many of us knew the story about Cap, Nick Fury, Bucky, and Sharon Carter. What didn’t make sense was how Black Widow would fit into Marvel’s new film version of the series. What happened in the movie was downright perfect and it is still my favorite Marvel movie to date.
Scarlett Johansson is still waiting for her chance at a solo film but until then we’ve been treated to a number of random characters like Ant-Man, Jessica Jones, and Doctor Strange. Why Marvel hasn’t jumped at the chance to make a film on a proven character, I don’t know, but the big-wigs at Disney are all about them dollar bills so I won’t be surprised when it does finally come out. Let’s just hope that Scarlett is still up to the task when her number finally gets drawn.
