Hello everyone, I hope this edition of The Six Shooter finds you well and I hope this edition of The Six Shooter will provide you with a small amount of entertainment as you go through your day. Last month I touched on some remakes I never want to see but this month I’m going to go in the opposite direction and talk movies that I do want to see.
Now there are many movies that should never get the glory of a sequel, but there are also some movies that give us stories and characters that make us wonder “hey whatever happened to that guy?”” or “you know I’d like to know what those characters would do in a different situation.” In this edition of The Six Shooter, I’m going to be talking about some film franchises I’d like to see continue. Not gonna lie, this has been a tough Six Shooter to write. There are so many possibilities that I’d like to see, but alas I’ve narrowed it down to 6 so let’s start shooting…
6. The Spirit: Resurrection
It should be no surprise if you read this column regularly that I am a fan of comics. As a matter of fact I’m a decent fan of Frank Miller, (with exception to The Dark Knight Strikes Back). Honestly I’m not sure of too many people that don’t enjoy the films he directs. They are different, they look cool, the stories are compelling and its nearly always a stacked cast. The Spirit was a fun film for me, it was not at all as dark as some of Miller’s other films, but I enjoyed it especially the dialogue between characters. And while I was entertained by everyone in the film, it is easy to say that Samuel L Jackson stole the show as the villain, The Octopus. The former Danny Colt put egg on the face of his nemesis and we know The Octopus doesn’t like egg on his face. Revenge is the perfect reason for another film.
5. Reign of Fire: Continuity
In 2002 a film that, in my view, was far ahead of its time hit theaters. It starred a pre-Batman Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey and Gerard Butler before he told everyone all about Sparta. The movie was Reign of Fire. A movie bold enough to bring fire breathing dragons to the present time! How awesome is that concept?!? Its flippin’ fire breathing dragons!! I’m a big fan of post-apocalyptic film franchises and this is one I’d love to see continue. Even without any of the original cast returning a sequel could work because it was the fire breathing dragon concept that put the butts in seats the first time. So come on Hollywood hook a brother up! The world needs more dragons, Game of Thrones won’t last forever.
4. Doomsday 2
I am honestly surprised this sequel has not happened yet. Doomsday is such a cool film! It feels like so many other films I love like Mad Max and John Carpenter’s Escape films. This was the first film I saw Rhona Mitra in and talk about a strong female lead (Mitra is another actress that would have killed it as Wonder Woman). Eden Sinclair would own Furiosa (Mad Max: Fury Road) just for the fun of it! Imagine with me, if you will, Eden Sinclair leading an army of cannibal warriors against the country that created them. Yeah, I’ll see ya at IMAX.
3. Book of Eli: Journey
I told you earlier I like post-apocalyptic movies, well apparently I really like them. This sequel could follow Solara (Mila Kunis) as she travels the broken world with her new found wisdom in an attempt to make it a better place. The possibilities for opposition would be endless really. In the first film Carnegie (Gary Oldman) was trying to use the power of the book to gain more power. In the sequel perhaps a foe could be attempting to destroy the book completely.
2. Double Impact… again
I had to fight off the desire to make most of the column Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. I mean there are a lot to choose from…
Lionheart,
Timecop,
Cyborg and if you wouldn’t want to see another
UniSol film you should just stop sucking. But I chose Double Impact mainly because I know this is the one movie that JCVD himself has went on record saying he wanted to do. I think it iss easy to say that Van Damme’s acting has improved by leaps and bounds since the first
Double Impact, so I think he could really bring some fun stuff to both Alex and Chad Wagner. Technology has also improved by leaps and bounds since 1991, so if they could take the story in the Alex vs. Chad direction it would be something I would love!
1. Escape from…
Lets forget about L.A and that fan made New Jersey deal and go back to New York. How epic would that be?
Snake Plissken is one of the coolest characters in movie history, but I probably don’t need to tell you that. Now you wouldn’t have to try hard to make a continuation to the
Escape franchise. I mean you put a beard on Kurt Russell and dust off the eye patch and put him somewhere and write a script about him getting out and you’re done. Take my money! Maybe even take things a step further with an older, wiser, meaner Snake trying to maybe get off the planet? I’ll go along for the ride Mr. Carpenter. Also I want an older Snake Plissken action figure for my collection… just saying.
Well that’s all I have for this edition of The Six Shooter. I know this was a bunch of wishful thinking, but I also know we all have those movies we’d love to see more of. What are some of yours? I want to know, so write some comments and let me know or tweet me if you like
@planetwillams hope to here from you. Until next time.
