Action Spotlight: Kickboxer: Vengeance
As a lover of action movies my entire life, it isn’t every day that I get to see a trailer for a film that truly gets me excited. A really good trailer, especially one for an action movie, should be made and edited to give the viewer that same feeling they had when they were young. A feeling of intrigue and excitement that has become more and more elusive in these days of social media and spoilers, but the really good movie trailers are still able to pique our interest enough to send the goosebumps up our arms and leave us with our mouths gape.
Fans of Jean Claude Van Damme’s original Kickboxer film and the slightly lesser crowd of fans of the ensuing sequels have been wondering for years when the star would return to the series that helped make him a star. The second film, the first of which that he did not make, made it difficult for JCVD to make a future appearance but like the current Star Wars trilogy being filmed the Kickboxer series has waited just long enough that Van Damme has now aged enough to fill another role in the story. The apprentice has now become the master.
While Van Damme has continued to make his style of movies for over three decades now, Kickboxer: Vengeance has smartly passed the proverbial torch into another actor’s hands. Alain Moussi, a name that many may be unfamiliar with, takes over the role of Kurt Sloane. With Van Damme’s character Durand as his trainer, Kurt looks to perfect his skills in order to exact revenge upon the monstrous Tong Po. As they say in the trailer, if you fear death, you’re already dead. Kurt must learn to hone his mind, body, and spirit to that of the warriors of old if he’ll want to defeat the killer that is Tong Po.
With an incredibly impressive supporting cast, Kickboxer: Vengeance has quickly become one of the most exciting action movies to come out this year. Alain Moussi and Jean Claude Van Damme are joined by Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, Sara Malakul Lane, Georges St. Pierre, Darren Shahlavi, and a whole slate of others to bring what appears to be the most action-packed movie of the year.
