Scene of the Week: Under Siege knife fight
Tommy Lee Jones is a pretty experienced knife fighter but unless you’re a plane flying at 30,000 feet and have the entire power of gravity at your hands, you’re not gonna take out Steven Seagal that easily.
Under Siege, for my money, is one of the best action movies released during the 90’s and quite possibly the best film from action legend Steven Seagal. Seagal was surrounded by amazing performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey and it makes Seagal’s toned down character play out even better next to their wild behavior.
Seagal plays Casey Ryback, former Navy SEAL and current cook on deck of the USS Missouri. Ryback was the only survivor of a SEAL mission to take an airport in Panama and it’s pretty clear that he is a tough man to kill. Whether he’s taking down armed guards intent on firing nuclear missiles or using his trademark overkill methods on Tommy Lee Jones, Seagal plays Ryback with his normal “calm storm”. One eyebrow furrow from Steven Seagal is deadlier than one hundred modern day action “stars”. Under Siege is absolute action gold, and who knows, maybe we’ll get an opportunity to see an Under Siege 3 someday??
