Tough Chicks: Gal Gadot – Wonder Woman
With all of the bad reviews coming out of the most recent DC movies, the one character/film to actually get a positive word said about it would have to be Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The character itself is one of the most iconic to ever grace the cover of a comic book and has made appearances on television and animated shows for so long that it seemed like it was far overdue for a film to be made. But here we are in 2016 and there still hasn’t been a movie starring the Amazonian ass-kicker. I think it goes without saying that the biggest achievement to date for the DC films has been the soon to be released Wonder Woman film while Marvel has focused solely on male characters and team-ups. When your company is losing the battle at cinemas as badly as DC is to Marvel, they’ll take one whenever they can get one.
The idea of Wonder Woman on screen in a film brings with it a good deal of baggage. For some reason we can see Benedict Cumberbatch wave his fingers around like a weird cheerleader or watch Chris Pratt talk to a giant tree but a woman fighting crime wearing that outfit has been a big reason why the character hasn’t made it to the screen for years. Times, they are a changin’. Gadot, who is a relative newcomer, has become the absolute perfect embodiment of what Wonder Woman should look like. The Zack Snyder-Verse has of course dulled down her colors and given her a bit of an edge compared to the character that many might remember from years past, but the upcoming film and her role in the new Justice League promises to give us the badass warrior that comic fans have been begging for.
It’s pretty easy to see that the three characters pictured in the forefront of the photo are going to be the main focus of the movie but if the recent back-peddling of the DC bros when it comes to Superman and Batman means anything than it will probably give us even more opportunity for WW and new guy Aquaman to soak up even more screen time. I say, given all of the criticism from the public, that DC should get even more of a pat on the back for having the most ethnic hero team yet. It goes to show you that if you’re gonna change a character’s ethnicity (Aquaman goes from blue eyed blonde hair to Jason Momoa) then you better knock it out of the ballpark or people are gonna be pissed. I’d say that adding Momoa will turn out the be the best thing about the new Justice League film. Well, maybe not the best thing….
