Scene of the Week: The Running Man
If you need proof that Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the biggest action stars of all-time, just take a look at the year 1987.
In that one year, Arnold starred in the action masterpiece Predator AND The Running Man. That is an impressive year.
In The Running Man, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Ben Richards. Richards finds himself a contestant in an ultra-violent game show that has swept the nation in 2019 titled The Running Man. The contestants are criminals (legit or government manufactured) and if they can survive the show their prize is sweet freedom.
But surviving this life or death game is no easy task, especially when you have stalkers the caliber of Buzzsaw, Fireball, Dynamo and the man we will be looking at today, Subzero. Subzero was portrayed by legendary professional wrestler Professor Toru Tanaka. At this stage in his acting career the former WWE Tag Team Champion had been in countless movies, but The Running Man was without question his most high profile role.
In this week’s Scene of the Week we see Ben Richards and his allies William Laughlin (played by the incomparable Yaphet Kotto) and Harold Weiss as they square off against the most dangerous hockey goon in history, Subzero. Pay special attention at the end of the scene for a classic Arnold one liner.
