Tough Chicks: Yancy Butler – Drop Zone
A few female action stars have successfully pulled off the strong/sexy combo with ease; Sigourney Weaver, Charlize Theron, Linda Hamilton, and one of my absolute favorites, Yancy Butler. Butler may not have had the same type of film success as those other women but what she lacks in box office numbers she more than makes up for in those fierce-ass eyes.
Yancy, besides being a beautiful woman, can totally kick the ass of most of the men she shares the screen with. It was a rude awakening to me as a kid because I had mostly only seen her as the damsel in distress like in Hard Target, but it was only the next year that she turned into the butt-kicking, sky-diving, badass that she plays in Drop Zone. It probably helps that she shares the screen with action veteran Wesley Snipes, and he isn’t exactly at his most macho in Drop Zone. That gives Yancy plenty of opportunities to whoop up on Gary Busey and his gigantic chompers.
It’s Yancy and her no-good, ex-boyfriend who push the plot of Drop Zone. Snipes is pretty much just a ride along for most of the film and there’s no doubt that Butler had the best fight scene in the entire movie (with Claire Stansfield) and there isn’t any wasted time trying to force a strange romance between Yancy and Wesley. I mean, those two names just don’t look good together on a wedding invitation.
They say the way to a man’s heart goes through his stomach but I call “bullshit” on that. The way to my heart is to have a smoking hot body, fight like cornered raccoon, and to wear a leather jacket and own a gun. I’m a simple man….
