Scene of the Week: 007 Corkscrew Jump
One of the greatest car stunts of all time caps off this week’s Scene of the Week. James Bond is hot on the tail of the man with the golden gun in the accurately titled The Man with the Golden Gun.
Sir Roger Moore is back as James Bond, and Sir Christopher Lee plays the titular character, Francisco Scaramanga. The foils each have passengers with unwilling Bond passenger Sheriff J.W. Pepper (Clifton James) back after his appearance in Live and Let Die and Nick Nack (Hervé Villechaize) acting as Scaramanga’s man Friday. The car chase starts in the streets of Bangkok with Bond commandeering an AMC Hornet chasing Scaramanga in his AMC Matador. Scaramanga looks to have eluded Bond but it takes more than a bridge being out to stop the super spy. The corkscrew stunt was done on the first take by stuntman “Bumps” Willard and if you don’t agree that it is one of the greatest stunts, you at least have to agree that it is the greatest slide whistle in action movie history.
