Scene of the Week: Batman V Superman – Save Martha
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t exactly set the world on fire. It reminds me of those days when I was in college and I would stay out partying till the break of dawn, drinking myself into a stumbling, wall-punching fit. Then I would wake up and go to class half-drunk, and fully hung-over only to ask myself “why the hell am I doing this?” I have a feeling that the execs over at Warner Brothers were asking themselves the same thing after Batman V Superman first hit the theaters. “Why the hell did we let Zack Snyder take the reins on our cash cow?” I, personally, didn’t think that the early Marvel movies were any better than Man of Steel or B V S but I’ve always had more of a connection to the DC characters than the Marvel ones anyways.
It’s my favorite scene from a movie that has many, many problems. We finally get to see the new Batman kick the shit out of some guys (killing quite a few of them, sorry purists) and also Rock Bottoming one guy nearly through the floor. My first impression of BatFleck’s fighting style is most definitely a positive one. It may help to remember that this Batman is also inspired by The Dark Knight Returns storyline and that was a Batman who was not afraid to kill some thugs. That doesn’t explain why Superman is such a pussy but let’s just try to get at least one character right at a time. If you can believe that the only thing that saves the heroes from punching each other into mush is that they both have mom’s that share the same name, then you’ll have no problem watching Fatman no-selling gunshots to the head and then monkey-stomping a room full of machine gun wielding bad guys.
