Tough Chicks: Lena Headey – 300
If you run a fine-toothed comb through everything that happens in the 2006 film 300 then you’ll most certainly find some things worth griping over. Even Herodotus thought some of those scenes were a little overdone. But if there is one character whose presence in the film was arguably even more impressive than their real life counterpart than that person would be Lena Headey as the royal badass Queen Gorgo.
Lena Headey has had some meaty, nerd-loving roles over the past few years. She could probably retire and work the convention circuit for the rest of her life if she wished. She played one of the most badass female characters of all time in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Then she was the villain in Dredd, going toe-to-toe with the baddest gangs of Mega City One and doing battle with the always amazing Karl Urban. Then she hit the jackpot with her role as Cersei Lannister in HBO’s cash cow Game of Thrones. The only way she could pad her resume more would be if she showed up as in the newest Guardians of The Galaxy movie to trade insults with Michael Rooker. To say that Headey has kicked some major ass in recent years would be a huge understatement. But, by far, the amount of ass she kicked as Queen Gorgo gives me the most pleasure.
Maybe it has something to do with this dress.
Not only did Queen Gorgo (and Spartan women in general) hold high esteem in the militant city-state of Sparta, but she also held her own like the boss that she was while her husband and King was away on campaign. She gave the speech that helped to propel the rest of the Spartan army into the war against the Persians and she straight-up prison shanked that coward who took her from behind. But most importantly, she raised a future badass and heir to the king.
