Stories From The Trenches: The Official Sam Firstenberg Book
Action fans who grew up in the 1980’s and early 1990’s owe a huge debt of gratitude to director Sam Firstenberg. Sam was one of the in-house directors for the Cannon Group. Sam directed action classics like Revenge of the Ninja, Avenging Force, American Ninja and American Ninja 2: The Confrontation while working for Cannon.
Journalist and author Marco Seidelmann has started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for his project Stories From The Trenches, a book chronicling the Hollywood movie career of Sam Firstenberg. Marco had the amazing opportunity to converse with Sam Firstenberg and record these in-depth conversations about Sam’s early days in the film industry, Sam’s time working for Cannon Films and his tenure in the early days of Nu Image. There are plenty of stories about some of the diverse group of talents that Sam worked with through the years including Michael Dudikoff, Sho Kosugi, Richard Roundtree, Eric Roberts, Steve James, Hulk Hogan and Grace Jones. Some of the actors I mentioned, as well as crew members who worked with Sam were also interviewed by Marco for this project.
Sam Firstenberg is easily one of my favorite directors. Not only because he was at the helm of so many action classics, but because of the passion he brought to all his projects.
