An Interview with Kristanna Loken
When it comes to women of action, Kristanna Loken is the real deal. Her action credits include the Mortal Kombat: Conquest television series and movies like Bounty Killer and Mercenaries. Kristanna’s biggest action role to date and one that has her name forever linked to the successful Terminator movie franchise was playing T-X in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
Kristanna is among the action movie veterans that have been assembled for Alexander Nevsky’s Black Rose. Kristanna stars along side Nevsky, Adrian Paul, Robert Davi and Matthias Hues. Black Rose will hit theaters in North America on April 28th and it will be released on DVD on May 2nd.
CTB: You have been in everything from sitcoms to soap operas, but what is it about the action genre that keeps bringing you back?
KL: I am a very physical person and I believe my body type and physicality lend itself well to action. I think my tall stature, and deep voice help give me a commanding presence and strength that bodes well in action roles.
CTB: Action fans will be able to see you kicking ass again in the upcoming Black Rose. What can you tell us about the movie and your character Emily Smith?
KL: I really enjoyed working with Alexander Nevsky on Black Rose. Our characters’ dynamic is similar to that of “Scully and Mulder” from The X-Files. “Emily” is a new police profiler and can’t help but get emotionally involved in the case.
CTB: You got to work with an interesting cast of characters in Black Rose. Any fun behind the scenes stories you can share from the set?
KL: We actually shot part of the film in Moscow, Russia. Alexander Nevsky was a great host, and my father accompanied me during filming. It was a very special time on many levels.
CTB: Your death scene in Bounty Killer is one of the most epic death scenes I have ever seen. What was it like working on Bounty Killer?
KL: Thank You! “Catherine” was a fun character to play, self absorbed and indulgent. I liked the over the top, post apocalyptic vibe of the movie.
CTB: I was a big fan of Mercenaries. I even liked it more than the movie that inspired it. Any chance we will see a sequel?
KL: Much appreciated! I don’t know of any plans to date for a sequel, but one never knows…
CTB: Thank you Kristanna, looking forward to seeing you in action again in Black Rose!
