Scene of the Week: Roller Coaster of Doom
It has been reported that nearly 300 million people ride roller coasters each year. It seems roller coaster enthusiasts can not get enough of the controlled chaos and adrenaline pumping exhilaration from these amusement park “scream machines”. But I can’t help but wonder how many of the 300 million adrenaline junkies would trade places with Indiana Jones, Willie Scott and Short Round in this week’s Scene of the Week.
Not only is the “roller coaster” in the Temple of Doom missing parts of the track, there are no safety belts or seats for that matter. And while it does come equipped with brakes, the ride is old and the possibility of the equipment failing is extremely high. If the ride itself is not enough of a death trap, you also have to contend with the maniacal Mola Ram sending his Thuggee henchmen after you. You can do what you want, but I think I’ll keep my feet on the ground, avoid all roller coasters and sit back and watch this week’s Scene of the Week for some vicarious excitement..
