Scene of the Week: Mortal Mud Fight
Even movies that aren’t particularly good can have some positive elements to them. Case in point, 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
It was apparent right from the start that the follow up to the original Mortal Kombat movie was going to be a step down. Many of the cast members from the original did not return for the sequel. The whole thing came off as a studio “cash grab”, capitalizing on the success of the 1995 film and the ongoing success of the video game the movies were based on, with no real concern for the quality of the story being told.
But as I said at the top, even a bad movie can have something good inside. And that something good in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is the fight between Sonya Blade (Sandra Hess) and Mileena (Dana Hee)… in the mud! I’m not sure exactly what it is about women battling in mud that is so appealing, but there is definitely a market for it… there was a reason mud wrestling was so popular back in the 80’s. Mud wrestling was even featured in movies back then like Stripes and Number One With a Bullet.
Mud wrestling fans, video game fans and action fans alike can enjoy this short but sweet Scene of the Week…
