Scene of the Week: The King of the Kickboxers – Drug Busting Made Easy
Loren Avedon’s character in The King of the Kickboxers may just be “a plain old cop”, but he doesn’t do things the way that most men in blue do them. His undercover skills are lacking a bit; the tired look of dark glasses, leather jacket and bandanna might not work with every bad guy but it’s hard to argue that it doesn’t look cool as hell. One thing that is abundantly clear while watching this action gem from 1990 is that undercover cop Jake Donahue is having a whole heap of fun beating people up.
Much like Bloodsport was the perfect vehicle for Jean Claude Van Damme to show off his kicking skills, The King of the Kickboxers featured the amazingly fast and fluid kicks of Loren Avedon and Billy Blanks in a way that still excites new viewers today. The final fight scene between the two men still lands near the top of lists for many action fans today but you’ll find that the scene featured below is pure fun. It gives us a taste into the skills of Jake Donahue while at the same time showing us his risky and downright insane lifestyle. Check it out.
