Women of Action: Sharni Vinson – You’re Next
I don’t watch many dance movies not named Breakin’ but there is one devilishly adorable Aussie that I would be willing to make an exception for: Sharni Vinson. Who is Sharni Vinson, you may be asking? She has the body of a marbled Greek Goddess, the exotic (to me) and sexy accent that really makes my ears stand up like a cartoon basset hound, and the ability to survive an extremely volatile situation. What more could a man ask for?
You’re Next was director Adam Wingard’s first film that isn’t some creepy sex freak movie. It was essentially a film about an extended family holed up in a house surrounded by a bunch of killers in animal masks. The plot isn’t something that makes you stand up and notice the movie in the era of films like The Purge and The Strangers, but You’re Next makes up for its seemingly unoriginal storyline by popping a few twists in along with the very awesome Sharni Vinson as the heroine Erin.
I’ve heard You’re Next described as the uber-violent version of Home Alone and I can’t say that it’s not a fitting description. If you turned The Wet Bandits into mask-wearing murderers then it’s almost spot-on. What Home Alone doesn’t have, however, is a smoking hot lady hero covered in blood and kicking the amount of ass normally reserved for a Sonny Chiba movie. If you’re looking for a slightly scare-driven film where a working cell phone or loaded pistol could have easily solved the problem but instead are treated with a blood-soaked kill-a-thon, then you should watch You’re Next.
Love me some Sharni….
