Scene of the Week: The Hunt for Red October ☭
There are several things I enjoy about the 1990 action thriller The Hunt for Red October. I like watching and listening to Sean Connery, Sam Neill, Tim Curry, et al. trying to keep up with their Russian accents. I enjoy the top notch portrayal of Jack Ryan by Alec Baldwin and his American allies like James Earl Jones, Richard Jordan, and Scott Glenn don’t disappoint. I love the fact that when The Hunt for Red October was initially released on VHS the cassette was red!
However, the thing I like the most about The Hunt for Red October is the tense submarine action scenes that are intertwined perfectly within the backdrop of a cold war era political thriller. There is a reason Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character has been so successful on film even though portrayed by several different actors. This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at the explosive finale to The Hunt for Red October and features everything I enjoy about the movie, inconsistent Russian accents, Alec Baldwin at the top of his game, the color red and action that will have you on tenterhooks!
