Women of Action: Stana Katic – Stiletto
Just one year before she starred in the award-winning (I assume) show Castle, Stana Katic played the lead character in an action movie featuring Tom Berenger, Michael Biehn, William Forsythe, Paul Sloan, and Kelly Hu. You probably had no idea. It was called Stilleto.
Stiletto isn’t named after some sexy style of shoe that I mostly see on strippers, but instead it’s named after the style of knife that Stana Katic’s Russian character uses while she kills a whole bunch of people. See?
There are so many good actors in every scene of Stiletto that it’s hard not to find something to like. I, for one, am a huge fan of Michael Biehn so I only watched it because I saw he was in it. I also love me some William Forsythe, so when he’s acting like a bad guy I’m eagerly anticipating the moment in which he’ll be killed.
The movie stars Stana as a Russian lover to mobster Tom Berenger. She turns into a crazed assassin and starts knocking off bad guys left and right and the viewer spends most of the movie just trying to figure out who is on her hit list and why. My wife has watched Stana in Castle for years so it seemed like a good idea for me to try to turn her love of Castle into a good action movie opportunity for me. The knife wielding assassin that Katic plays in Stiletto is so far from her Castle counterpart that my wife pretty much bowed out 30 minutes into it but I stuck around long enough to enjoy the movie for what it was; hot assassin killing mobsters with a ridiculously large knife kind of flick.
