Bad Girls: Natasha Henstridge – Species
There were many incredible action movies in 1995: Desperado, Bad Boys, Braveheart, Rumble in the Bronx, and GoldenEye, just to name a few. Looking at that short list of films, though, you’ll see that while most of them featured strong-willed and powerful women, none of them featured scenes of those women nakedly murdering a man in a hot tub. What were they thinking?
Natasha Henstridge’s role in Species instantly shot her to the top of Sci-Fi’s hottest ladies list in the minds of many. It’s unique because it was the film debut of Natasha and the role demanded that she do far more than just amazing with her clothes off. The character of “Sil”, who is a human/alien hybrid bred in a lab, is meant to be one that the audience feels sympathetic for. She couldn’t help the way she was raised and the fact that she was created by a bunch of scientists. Her only real ambition is to live long enough to have children. Who can argue with that?
Did I mention how hot Henstridge was? Species introduces a cast of characters who are chasing after the beautiful Sil as she attempts to mate with as many men as she can find. It’s incredible that she makes it halfway down the street, to be honest. With looks like that, I would guess there would be a great many men willing to risk an alien tentacle death if it involved some coitus.
The saddest parts of the movie are when the unsuspecting men finally realize that they’re about to be murdered butt-naked while trying to get some. Hell, Sil was so adamant that she get pregnant that she had sex with Alfred Molina! The fact is, no matter what her intentions were, Natasha’s Sil was one bad girl… and we love her even more for it.
