Scene of the Week: Kung Fu Fighting
Sometimes it just feels like there is no way to find a little peace and quiet. Kwai Chang Caine must feel the same way during this episode of the legendary 70’s television show Kung Fu. The man is just hanging out by a slow-moving stream playing his flute when a man from the infamous ninja order creeps up on him. Kung Fu was never a show to push the limits of what I would call amazing action scenes but it was the catalyst for the expansion of the martial arts genre into the United States. It was the gateway drug for Americans looking to get high on that kung fu.
David Carradine probably wouldn’t be my first choice for a Shaolin Monk and I know that it would never fly by today’s standards, but all Bruce Lee arguments aside, Carradine was more than game to portray the man who would be wandering across the country for 63 episodes kicking ass and solving problems. In this scene, Carradine and Robert Ito throw down using various ninja weapons before finally settling it with just their mitts. The clip is a great representation of the shenanigans that Caine would be getting into for the better part of four years. Take a look…
This feeling in my chest is brutal, to consider DKC anything but a top 3 game let alone the best game on the system. Then again, I realize I’m on the outside looking in when it comes to Zelda. I do like Link to the Past, but it never had that feeling of pure joy, awesomeness from literal minute 1. That, and it has one of the best overall soundtracks ever. Visually the game was stunning back then, and it still holds up well today with a very good art style.
