Bullet Points: Game Over, Man!
There have been a lot of Die Hard inspired movies over the years… Under Siege, Toy Soldiers, Sudden Death and Open Fire are just a few in the long line of movies that borrowed from the successful Die Hard formula.
But now thanks to the guys from Workaholics and the fine folks at Netflix, the world now has the raunchiest Die Hard inspired movie of all-time, 2018’s Game Over, Man!
- The Get Rich Quick Plan: Alexxx (Adam Devine), Darren (Anders Holm) and Joel (Blake Anderson) are three slackers with dreams of one day making their idea for a revolutionary new video game a reality. The trio find themselves in a less than glamourous job working as housekeepers at a swanky Los Angeles hotel. But it appears their luck is about to change when their boss Mitch (Daniel Stern) informs them he will need them to work as waiters at a big party that is being thrown by Bey Awadi, a filthy rich and famous Instagram celebrity, at the hotel that evening. Alexxx seeing this as a golden opportunity to get rich quick, convinces his friends that they need to pitch their video game Lumberjackson (a game controlled by a “Skintendo” body suit) to Bey so he will give them the money needed to put the idea into production and put them on the road to becoming millionaires. The plan almost goes off without a hitch as Bey Awadi is blown away by the concept and has his personal assistant cut the boys a check for $200,000… but before they could celebrate the life altering windfall, their boss Mitch steps in, returns the check and fires Alexxx, Darren and Joel on the spot and escorts them to the elevator.
- The Evil Plan: Bey Awadi’s disgruntled personal assistant Mr. Ahmad had a much different plan where the party that his employer is throwing was concerned. Ahmad has arranged for a group of terrorists (posing as security for the party) to lock down the hotel and hold all the party goers, hotel guests and staff hostage until Awadi divulges the access codes to his off shore bank accounts allowing Ahmad to drain the accounts and bankrupt his employer while becoming rich himself. The terrorists are led by Conrad Drothers (played by a proven action movie bad guy, Neal McDonough). Drothers has his own chubby Clarence Gilyard Jr. as the tech guy needed to do the wire transfers. Drothers also has a bunch of muscle bound goons and a sick and twisted bad girl named Irma (played expertly by Rhona Mitra of Hard Target 2 fame). Did I mention that all the hostages have explosive devices strapped to them and each device is tied to one of the points of entry on the hotel so if anybody tries to get in or get out the devices will explode? Pretty clever… in a sadistic sort of way.
- Plans Change: Not wanting to give up so easily Alexxx once again rallies Darren and Joel and they send the elevator back up the party, but as the elevator doors open they see bad girl Irma standing over their former boss Mitch after she cut his dick off (yes, you read that right… Irma cut off Mitch’s uncut dick). Now the guys we first saw as horrible hotel housekeepers are on the run from the bad guys, having their wits, their guts and their friendship put to the ultimate test. But through some rather unorthodox methods, Alexxx, Darren and Joel find themselves thwarting the bad guys at every turn as they become amateur versions of John McClane.
Game Over, Man! is like no other Die Hard clone to come before it. Filled with the type of jokes and comedy that made the series Workaholics a fan favorite. Game Over, Man! also brings the gore factor with several graphic death scenes including an exploding head, a neck breaking fall, an impaling and a good old fashioned knife to the eye.
Not sure if it was inspired by William Sadler’s nude Tai Chi in Die Hard 2, but Game Over, Man! also features a good amount of male nudity especially from star Adam Devine, who lets it all hang out in one of the many scenes in Game Over, Man! designed to shock the audience.
