Scene of the Week: Think Big in Japan
If there are two actors that surprise me every time with how entertaining their movies are it has to be David and Peter Paul, better known as The Barbarian Brothers. These two bodybuilders are probably better known for their admittedly steroid enhances physiques and unique fashion style over the quality of their acting, but they know that fact and play to their strengths. From their first appearance in the criminally underrated D.C. Cab to the sword and sorcery film that shares their name, The Barbarians, to the early 90s trio of films Think Big, Double Trouble, and Twin Sitters I continue to expect to be disappointed only to end up having a great time. With The Barbarians you can expect some over the top fun with two guys that are having just as much fun as you are.
This week’s Scene of the Week looks at some promotional work done for their film Think Big in Japan and features everything that makes David and Peter Paul great, weightlifting, unique fashion, and comedy gold. One doesn’t need to understand Japanese to see the sheer power in benching 200 kg/440 lbs with a reverse grip! Even more impressive is doing it with a fanny pack and avoiding a nip slip! While that feat of strength is worth the price of admission alone, the clip ends with the brothers singing the theme song they wrote for Think Big with co-star Richard Kiel providing the backing vocals. Like I said, they never disappoint.
