Scene of the Week: Enter the Deathmobile
Everyone loves a parade. The floats, the bands, the orderly procession, who could ask for more? The boys of the Delta House, that’s who. 1978’s National Lampoon’s Animal House is one of the greatest comedies of all time, but that doesn’t mean it is devoid of some quality action scenes. The cafeteria food fight, Otter getting the snot beat out of him, and Chip Diller thanking and asking his Omega brothers for another are just a taste of the action comedy gold.
Animal House tells the hysterical happenings of the members of the Delta Tau Chi fraternity at Faber College. The Delta house is the worst on campus and Dean Wormer tries everything to get rid of the Deltas and uses everything in his power including the members of the Omega Theta Pi fraternity. Finally the Delta’s grades are their undoing and Wormer is able to expel the lot of them. After one of the most rousing impassioned speeches of all time (“Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” anyone) the Delta’s decide to get revenge on Wormer and the Omegas. The climax of the Animal House provides the all-out hell unleashed by the Delta’s on Faber College during the homecoming parade with the help of Flounder’s brother Fred’s once Lincoln Continental.
