An Interview with Alexander Nevsky
The more times I get to interview Alexander Nevsky, the more I start to wonder… is Alexander Nevsky the biggest action fan on the planet? Alexander is the kind of guy that makes things happen and his drive and determination have led to him getting to work with some true action icons.
Alexander’s latest movie Maximum Impact, which is available NOW on Blu-Ray/DVD, Digital, VOD and on iTunes, is Alexander’s first action comedy and it features an all-star cast that includes Eric Roberts, Tom Arnold, Kelly Hu, Mark Dacascos and Matthias Hues.
Maximum Impact is also the main topic of discussion in my latest interview with Alexander, but we also discuss an upcoming historical drama he is working on, some entertaining interviews he has done with his buddy Casper Van Dien and more…
CTB: Let me start by saying that I saw Maximum Impact the other day and really enjoyed it. The movie was pure fun. And it gave off a vibe that everyone was really having a good time making the movie. Give us a peek behind the scenes, what was the mood on set while filming Maximum Impact?
AN: Hi, Chris! I’m glad you liked Maximum Impact, thank you very much for the nice review and for all your support! You’re right, we all had a great time on the set, even when we had 24 hours shooting days 😉 For me personally it was a big fun also because I’m a fan of them all – director Andrzej Bartkowiak, writer Ross LaManna and all my great co-stars.
CTB: Where would you rank Maximum Impact among the other films you have done?
AN: It’s hard to do because Maximum Impact is my first action-comedy and it’s not easy to compare this movie to my previous straight action films. But it’s my biggest project to date for sure!
CTB: When I had the opportunity to chat with Matthias Hues prior to the release of Black Rose, he talked about Maximum Impact and how he and Mark Dacascos really clicked. After seeing the film, I know Matthias was not exaggerating in the least. The chemistry between Mark and Matthias was off the charts. Were you shocked at how well they played off of one another and can we please get this pairing again in one of your future projects?
AN: Matthias Hues is my very good friend and he’s a great actor, not just iconic action star. Mark Dacascos is a very good actor too so it was easy for them to work together. Of course I liked them in Maximum Impact and international audience enjoyed their chemistry too (film sold to about 30 countries already). Mark directed Matthias and me in Showdown in Manila and it was fun, so we’ll be happy to shoot another movie all together, it’s just depend on our schedule.
CTB: In Maximum Impact, you once again managed to find yourself working alongside one of the beautiful women of action, this time out it was a true veteran of the action game, Kelly Hu. What was it like working with Kelly?
AN: Kelly Hu is a professional. It was nice and interesting to work with her. Her character in the film is very strong and she was good in all the fighting scenes. So I think that this “veteran of action” will continue to kick ass on screen for many more years.
CTB: The Internet can be a negative place and I am as guilty as any online reviewer for having my fair share of movies that I have trashed online. As an actor and as a filmmaker how do you deal with negative reviews or comments about your films?
AN: There is no bad publicity! Right? 😉 To be honest with you, I’m having so much fun making movies one after another, I don’t pay much attention to the negative stuff. I’m living my dream and enjoying it in full!
CTB: I caught the extremely entertaining appearance you did with Casper Van Dien on the Geekscape podcast earlier this year when you were promoting Showdown in Manila. Do you keep in touch with Casper?
AN: Yes, Casper is a friend of mine. By the way, we’re still talking about Showdown in Manila 2! Glad you liked those interview, you should check us on KTLA too (it’s easy to find on YouTube), it was even more funny because I had to do a live interview on American TV in freaking English language.
CTB: The last time I had the pleasure of interviewing you, you mentioned your next movie was Savage Attack. Do you have any updates on this project?
AN: I decided to make another film first. It called Wild League and it’s historical action drama. We shot this film in July and August in Moscow and now it’s in post-production. I produced it with Eric Branner (Blunt Force Trauma, Erased) and it was directed by Art Camacho (Half Past Dead franchise). But Savage Attack is on my to do list, don’t worry! Your readers can always get all updates on my official Twitter (@NevskyAlexander) and Instagram (@realalexnevsky).
CTB: Do you foresee a time in the future where you will get to work with your idol Arnold Schwarzenegger?
AN: I really hope we’ll work together one day. And it was a huge honor to show Maximum Impact to Arnold and Ralf Moeller. They both loved it!
CTB: Thanks Alexander. I truly appreciate what you are doing for the action genre!
AN: Thank you very much again, Chris! You’re doing a great job supporting independent action films and I really appreciate it. All the best wishes to you and to all Bulletproof Action readers!
