Scene of the Week: That Dam GoldenEye Opening
When you watch a James Bond film you are guaranteed to have an exciting opening scene. It is one of the many hallmarks of the action film series so you can only imagine with the long layoff of six years between films that the producers were going to come out swinging with 1995’s GoldenEye. What better way to introduce Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond than with a heart-pounding attack on a Soviet chemical weapons facility hidden inside a dam.
GoldenEye sees James Bond going after one of MI-6’s own, the rogue 006 Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) and his plan to create a global financial meltdown. However, the opening of GoldenEye starts nine years earlier when 006 and 007 are infiltrating the weapons facility. This week’s Scene of the Week shows the pair surreptitiously enter the facility to plant explosives only to be captured by General Ourumov (Gottfried John.) There is something for everyone in this scene including a dam jump, fistfights, gunfights, explosions, motorcycles chasing a plane, jumping into a plane, a man on a toilet and of course Sean Bean dying.
