Scene of the Week: Game of Thrones – Brienne VS Jaime Lannister
The second season of Game of Thrones really cemented the awesomeness of that show in my eyes. It took the interesting character arcs from the first season and threw in a massive war between two of the most powerful factions just for fun. The Starks and the Lannisters couldn’t be any more different, but many of the men who fought under the two flags were doing so for the same reasons; it’s all they had. While there were plenty of big characters who bit the dust over the course of the show, the little man who bore the main brunt of the war got little to no attention.
A couple of characters who did get much of the focus during the second season were Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). Jamie was like the cocky quarterback of the 80’s movies. He was rich, handsome, and supremely talented. Brienne was a little different. She was high-born and not from lowly stock, but she wasn’t the most attractive person in the Seven Kingdoms. What she did have, though, was a massive build and the ability to use a sword that was rarely bested. Below you can see when the two finally cross swords. You wouldn’t say it was a fair fight, but it was still a very cool scene for fans of the books and show.
