Scene of the Week: Gambit
The best thing about “Fan made videos” is that there is always a deep love of the material and/or an appreciation to the idea of making loads of money from it that they normally do a real service to the source stuff. Comic books fans are incredibly loyal to their characters and are also willing to dish out money to anyone who looks remotely like the ones that they adore. People will stand in line to take pictures with cosplay folks at conventions and go out of their way to talk to me every time I happen to wear a t-shirt at the gym with a Superman logo on it.
Gambit is a character who has been in filmmakers minds for some time. Channing Tatum has been trying in vain to get this thing off of the ground for years and while I’d rather it never saw the light of day than have that shit-stain star in it, I would be more than happy if someone with a little skill and a whole lot of charisma took over the role. Let’s face the fact; most comic book movies aren’t good. For every Superman or Avengers there is a Fantastic Four or X-Men: The Last Stand out there. I didn’t know who Nick Bateman was about 40 minutes ago. I didn’t know he was some big-time model or a world class martial artist. I didn’t have any idea that MMA fighter Krzysztof Soszynski would be in it and I had no idea how good director Jensen Noen would be at creating something in about 2 1/2 minutes that FOX couldn’t ever get right. All that being said, big studio Gambit may never get made but fans of the character Gambit can certainly turn to this iteration of the character to see a glimpse of what the character might look like if given the opportunity.
