Bullet Points: Corbin Nash
I really enjoy watching movies that I have absolutely no connection to. I didn’t know the lead star of this and I had no pre-existing notions of what might come from the story so I’m entering into Corbin Nash with a blank slate. Let’s see what happens…
Synopsis: A rogue police detective in search of his parents’ killer is murdered and reborn the ultimate killer.
- Bring In The Names: Just like pro wrestling, it helps many of these smaller movies to bring in big names from yesteryear. Instead of Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Vader it’s Eric Roberts or Rutger Hauer. In this case, it’s Hauer, Malcolm McDowell, and Bruce Davison. McDowell does some narration and plays the blind hobo while Hauer shows up at just the right time to deliver some much needed information about the main characters. Thanks guys!
- The Shoe Show: Rarely will you find a stripper with such a warm heart. The amazingly hot Fernanda Romero plays Macy, a stripper who finds a nearly dead Corbin Nash bleeding in the street and takes him home to her apartment. I’ve visited the shoe show a time or two and I’ve never seen a stripper who seemed the type to bring a bleeding man back to her home to nurse him to health.
- Ru Paul-acula:If you weren’t worried about cross dressing vampire-like demons before now then you better start worrying! They’re out there and they’re snatching people up! Corbin Nash and his detective partner are on the case and trying to find the missing persons from all over L.A..
- Dammit Nash:The two detectives finally find their marks but get taken down almost immediately. Nash gets taken by the duo of demons and is thrown into a Fight Club dungeon, of sorts, where he’s made to fight other survivors for the entertainment of the demon crew. Oh yeah, the ring they fight in is covered in human flesh. Ewww.
- The World That We Live In: It’s definitely messed up. Thinking about what is currently going on around us and all over the world could make you depressing as hell. The world of Corbin Nash, though, it’s even worse. These demons have been around for some time. Maybe even since the beginning of time. They feed on humans and use us as little play things. Not cool.
- Corey Feldman: I didn’t instantly recognize Corey Feldman as the cross dressing demon thing but that is probably a good thing because it didn’t distract me from his good performance. I thought that he played the part really well. Come to think of it, I really enjoyed the evil folks in this movie except for his partner who barely made an impression. The idea that there is something bigger going on around us is something that most people accept and almost want to believe in.
- Corbin: I didn’t know who Dean S. Jagger was before I watched this but he was really good here. His accent was on point and he seems like a tough dude and not just some sissy actor playing a tough guy like Channing Tatum. He probably isn’t the best cop in the world due to his methods but bonus points to Jagger for being one of the writers and putting his money where his mouth is.
- Let the blood flow: Nash gets all messed up the demons and left for dead. That was a big mistake! He puts on his leather jacket and takes revenge like a champ!
The Verdict: I enjoyed Corbin Nash. If anything, I would say that it took too long to get to the good stuff. It feels like the first movie in a planned series but it would have been better as a movie that set itself up for future offerings by kicking lots of ass. The film jumps back and forth in time to show the lead-up to Nash’s abduction. I feel like the film would have done well by having an opening scene already in the present where Nash is in full ass-kicker mode. The movie drags for about 30 minutes before it has some cool backstory stuff with the demonic history. Who is Drake? He’s brought up in the opening scene but there is no finality to anything. Give me something! All in all, Corbin Nash was a very entertaining first movie in a series (I hope) and I’m looking forward to seeing more from the Jagger Brothers.
