Scene of the Week: The Guest – Bar Fight
The Guest is the kind of movie that flew under the radar for many people. I think that one reason was that some of those people didn’t know what kind of movie The Guest was. Was it an action, thriller, horror….who the hell knows? But, you can guarantee that when director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barret get together that there will be a fair amount of all three.
If you’re totally unfamiliar with Adam Wingard or The Guest let me do a little salesmanship for you. You’ll notice immediately during the below clip that the music sounds pretty cool. One of my favorite things about The Guest is just how well the music creates a higher sense of tension during the scenes. Another thing you might notice is that Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey, Legion, and Beauty and the Beast fame plays the main character in The Guest. His character could best be described as ‘Steve Rogers gets the super soldier serum and a side effect is that he is now pretty insane’.
That’s not a perfect description but if you haven’t wanted to see a Capt. America with intense PTSD being chased by S.H.I.E.L.D. then I may have overestimated the Marvel fanbase.
