Scene of the Week: My Right Thumb
This week’s Scene of the Week does not come from some comedic parody of the Daniel Day Lewis film My Left Foot, but instead from 1988’s The Presidio starring Sean Connery and Mark Harmon.
The Presidio tells the tale of a cop, Jay Austin (Mark Harmon), investigating a series of murders with his former commanding officer in the United States Army, Lt. Col. Alan Caldwell (Sean Connery). Given the history between the two men and the fact that they are both crossing over each other’s jurisdictional lines there is plenty of tension between the two but The Presidio throws some gasoline on that fire by having Jay date Caldwell’s daughter Donna (Meg Ryan).
One of the more memorable scenes from The Presidio takes place inside a bar, where a large brute of a man (played by Rick Zumwalt of Over the Top fame) disrespects Lt. Col. Alan Caldwell and we get the obligatory action movie bar fight… but this bar fight is unique because Caldwell only uses his right thumb to take on the man who will always be known as Bull Hurley to me…
