Scene of the Week: The Big Hit – Video Store Finale
Mark Wahlberg sucks. I’ve seen better acting at the Christmas plays in my son’s school. Somehow, though, he’s built a hugely successful career from looking at the camera with a puzzled look on his face while amazing actors like Lou Diamond Phillips miss out on those big payouts that come from making a shitty Michael Bay movie. Before I let myself get distracted by my hatred for Mark Wahlberg, let’s take a look at this week’s Scene of the Week.
The Big Hit is a movie that premiered in 1998 and might be the film that I have to blame for the action success that Wahlberg has had. Directed by Hong Kong’s Kirk Wong (say that five times), The Big Hit took recognizable action staples like Bokeem Woodbine, Avery Brooks, Antonio Sabato Jr., and Lou Diamond Phillips and mixed in his own brand of humor and big time action. To me, all these years later, the standout performances come from Lou Diamond Phillips and Christina Applegate but the film will most likely be remembered for being the start of Wahlberg’s action career. Either way, check out this Spoilerific video below and try not to puke as Mark mumbles his way through all of his lines.
