Scene of the Week: Iron Eagle
For many of us, our father is the first hero we ever know. For the lucky ones, their dad remains their hero for their entire life. That was certainly the case for young Doug Masters (Jason Gedrick) in 1986’s Iron Eagle, because all Doug ever wanted to do was be just like his father Col. Ted Masters (Tim Thomerson) of the United States Air Force.
Col. Masters is shot down in the opening scene of Iron Eagle and then taken captive by a less than friendly country… this sets the table for an unlikely story to be told. With his father facing execution and the United States government doing nothing about it, Doug has the extraordinary opportunity to flip the script and be his father’s hero (with a big assist from Chappy Sinclair).
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at Doug’s daring rescue of his father…
Love this movie since I was a kid. Never thought of it as a Father’s Day movie before. The effects haven’t held up to well. But the soundtrack and score are both kick ass.
I will never tire of watching this movie.
