Scene of the Week: Elvis in Kid Galahad
It isn’t often that I search for “Elvis Presley fight scenes” on YouTube but that just might change. With the recent news of James Campbell and Paul London’s collaboration on a Kung Fu Elvis Action Spectacular, I’m certain that I am nearer to the beginning of this newfound love for Elvis fight scenes than I am to the end.
For today’s Scene of the Week, we travel back to the year 1962 where military veteran Walter Gulick (Elvis) finds that a job as a sparring partner at a boxing gym is about all he can wrangle up. Trainer Willy Grogan (Gig Young) sees potential in Walter (who is soon renamed ‘Kid Galahad’) and begins him down the path of being a professional boxer. And it has Charles Bronson!
It’s hard not to be impressed by the scene above. It isn’t the type of boxing you’re gonna see in a ring nowadays but it’s far and away better than most boxing movies not called Rocky. Lets hope that our friend Paul London has a chin like Kid Galahad in Tiger Man! Until then, check out the link and support this effort to see a King-sized smackdown get laid on the men responsible for Bruce Lee’s death.
