Hall of Fame: The Matrix Trio
There are all sorts of analogies about it ‘taking a village’ to raise a child. I think they’re used most times to get someone to babysit your kids but other times they totally make sense. If you’re a single parent trying to give your child the best life possible then you are at a major disadvantage in this society. Now, imagine if you will, you’re not raising just a child but the savior of all of humanity. It’s a pretty big deal, no doubt. This isn’t my attempt to bring religion into this site, though, I’m talking about the hero of The Matrix, Neo.
While people were preparing for the Y2K bug to eliminate all technology and communication in the world, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne were making one of the most badass action movies in history. The Matrix blasted onto screens and instantly became the smash hit that no one expected from this trio. A large reason for the success of the picture was the brilliant story and excellently shot film by the Wachowski siblings. The other reason, and the one that I’m focusing on, is the terrific triumvirate played by Reeves, Moss, and Fishburne.
Getting turned into a giant battery to be used by machines isn’t something that I’ve ever worried about but after watching Keanu slide out of his goo pod hairless and afraid, it’s something that I can assure you would not be fun. Part of the joy of The Matrix is not knowing what was going to happen next. The story usually brought with it equal levels of WTF-ery and Holy Shit moments and we didn’t have to wait a decade to get the story finished like Avatar. Not to mention, every movie for the next decade tried to emulate some aspect of the film.
When you really get down to it, The Matrix series has more standout action sequences than I can name in one post. Whether they are fighting on a train, on a motorcycle, or flying through the air, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus battle their way through different realities for one very important reason; that sweaty, party city known as Zion. I love it and I’m sure you do too.
So it’s easy to see why this amazing combination of action badasses will now be slow-motion diving their way into the BPA Hall of Fame. And whatever your thoughts are on the two sequels, just imagine this series with Will Smith and Sandra Bullock as the leads and send your thank you cards directly to this excellent trio.
