Scene of the Week: Tanks for the Memories
The swashbuckling adventures of everyone’s favorite archaeologist, Indiana Jones, have created countless memorable movie moments. Many of those moments have been in the Scene of the Week spotlight in the past… like the mine cart scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom… the circus train scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade… or my personal favorite scene from the Indiana Jones franchise, the desert chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
A close second to the Raiders’ desert chase, is this week’s Scene of the Week from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Ironically, it also takes place in the desert with Indy on horseback chasing after the evil Nazis.
This scene has everything that is great about Indiana Jones movies as Indy is desperately trying to rescue his father Henry Jones Sr (played expertly by Sean Connery) and his friend Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliot) who are being held captive inside a tank… all the while finding himself in one precarious situation after the other. There’s also some humor thrown in… my favorite being Marcus Brody questioning “how does one get off this thing?” and getting an unexpected solution to his problem and I’ll never tire of listening to the majestic score by the master himself, John Williams…
