Scene of the Week: No Country for Old Men – Hotel Shootout
Spanish superstar Javier Bardem has gotten international acclaim for his roles in films like Loving Pablo, Eat Pray Love, and Skyfall, but his most intense role to date has to be from No Country for Old Men. The Coen Brothers’ masterpiece of filmmaking from 2007 is the type of film that works in and across any genre. I could see this movie as Western, a futuristic science fiction film, as well as a present-day thriller.
Synopsis: Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.
An epic performance by Javier Bardem is the highlight of No Country for Old Man. Many have questioned the pace of the film and whether or not it drags at times but films like this allow the viewer to really be immersed in the characters to an extent that they actually have an emotional reaction when those characters die. I love it! Make more of these!
