Bullet Points: The Hunt
There was a lot of controversy surrounding The Hunt. We even had the release delayed for months. Surely, this has to be an epic movie? Well, let’s take a look at my trusty Bullet Points and see what all the fuss is about.
- The Most Dangerous Game: I am a sucker for MDG concept movies. Humans hunting humans. When the hunted becomes the hunter. Hard Target, Deadly Prey and Surviving the Game are just a few examples of this concept. The Hunt fits into this category. It is a movie about a group of elites who hunt a basket full of deplorables. It is satire. So the portrayal of all the characters are exaggerated. I found the exaggerations distracting. I just wanted to see some bullets fly and some heads roll.
- The Actual Hunt: I will give The Hunt credit for focusing on a character, and then killing them off in some gruesome way. If you went into the film completely blind, you might be really surprised who ends up being the biggest badass of them all.
- Crystal: Have you ever seen an average movie, but it had one performance you loved? With The Hunt, the award goes to Betty Gilpin’s Crystal. She is everything you need in an action hero. She likes cigarettes. She knows how to use a gun and a knife. She’s a war vet. She has a cool Southern accent, and she’s a straight up badass. You go see The Hunt for Crystal.
- Final Verdict: Did I tell you about the fat pig wondering around in the woods? That piggy sure could squeal. Or the fella in the Orlando Magic jersey? I’m still sad no one had a mullet. If you’re going to go all “redneck” you need some damn mullets. I did love the final boss battle, and The Hunt definitely has a lot of action and gore. However, I’m still scratching my head about the big controversy. It is just a very dumb satirical action movie. Don’t worry about going to the movies to see it, you can wait and rent it when it shows up at Redbox.
