An Interview with Tamas Nadas
Born in Budapest, Tamas Nadas is a man who has been making the moves and putting in the work to make his “American Dream” of working in the movie industry come true.
Tamas is one of the stars of the new short film, Perps, and I recently had the opportunity to ask Tamas a few questions about Perps, his career and more…
CTB: Before we talk about Perps, I was curious as to when you realized you wanted to be in the movie business and what you did to get there?
TN: I was a teenager when the acting bug hit me. I was still in elementary school in Hungary. However, I didn’t think of it as being an actor, I just liked entertaining people. This feeling grew throughout high school and college to the point I told my parents I want to move to the US. I received the legal papers rather quickly because of my Martial Arts background. I ended up in New York where I studied acting for years at the T. Schreiber studio under Peter Jensen. Later, I moved to Los Angeles and continued studying at the Lee Strasberg Academy and at the Ivana Chubbuck studio. I worked on many sets in many positions just to be close to the fire. I was an extra for years where I met great people who are getting recognized in the industry. Life threw curveballs and we moved to Albuquerque, NM. It was one of the best things happened to me. The film industry is booming here. More and more productions are moving to New Mexico. We have the same quality people but the prices are more affordable.
CTB: How did you get involved with Alejandro Montoya Marin’s short film Perps?
TN: Alejandro and I have been working together for quite some times now. He wrote the script with me in mind for the role of Tamas. He actually gave my real name to my character.
CTB: You get a chance to square off with the legendary Lou Ferrigno in Perps. What was that experience like?
TN: If I didn’t have a conversation with him before filming, I would say he is pretty intimidating in the terms of his character. However, in real life, he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. When we heard “CUT” we all burst into laughter. Of course, you can’t see that in the film.
CTB: I had a question about another one of your projects, Fierce Target. You wore a couple of different hats on that project serving as an executive producer and as one of the actors. But what I found curious is you weren’t the hero in that film, but instead played one of the villains. Was this a logistical thing and you didn’t want to spread yourself too thin or is it just more fun playing the villain?
TN: Hollywood has changed. Back in the days, men with blond hair and blue or green eyes were the good guys. Now, if you have those features, you are rarely a good guy in a movie unless you are Chris Hemsworth. I am sure they have their political reasons behind it. On the other hand, I do like playing the villain. Actually, I will be the main villain in Alejandro’s movie called Tuesday which is the sequel to his movie called Monday.
CTB: You were a stunt driver on El Camino: A Break Bad movie. What was it like to be a part of such an iconic piece of pop culture like Breaking Bad?
TN: It was a fantastic experience. Had a chance to work with some real industry professionals.
CTB: Do you have any projects coming up that action fans should keep their eyes peeled for?
TN: Absolutely! We are just waiting for the industry to reopen and then jump into pre-production with a horror film called Captive. After that comes Tuesday of which I already talked about.
CTB: Thank you Tamas, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. And I encourage all of the Bulletproof Action readers to take some time to check out Perps on YouTube if they haven’t done so already.
