Ryan Shoots First: Snowpiercer (S1 Ep4) “Without Their Maker”
Yes my friends, welcome back to this week’s episode of Law and Order SV-Choo. The longest murder investigation in TV history is still ongoing, by now I can’t help but feel the Doctor would have not only solved the murder but probably fixed the atmosphere so no one even needed to be on the train at all. But anyhow on with the show!
After last week’s encounter to close the episode, Nikki is in fact dead. Layton is still on the case and now that the train is on lockdown in response to the Fight Night riot he believes he has the killer narrowed down. This leads Layton to begin sweeping the train car by car. Never mind the fact that the show has said over and over the train is 1001 cars long it seems actually pretty small and easy to get from one end to the other. Unless we’re not seeing entire hours of people moving about dragging this murder story out even longer. During the sweep LJ tells them her bodyguard Eric (we know he’s the killer) never came back. They figure he is trapped in the lockdown and search his room which is full of evidence and murder weapons reserved for Bee keepers of which he is not.
Till and Oz back in car 3 chase Eric down to the sub levels where he has Jinju as a bargaining piece. In a wise move that anyone who saw the recent cattle car debacle would do he shoots the side of the car. This opens him up and he is taken out rather gruesomely. Back in the high rollers section Andre gets LJ to admit Eric killed whoever she wanted and she got a sick thrill out of it. LJ goes into the drawers and Eric is dead and we can all move on from this plot line. Before she goes though LJ offers Layton guns for the tail in return for her freedom and his silence. Of course she does this in the most stuck up, entitled rich girl way possible. It’s a shame, the show is culturally relevant especially with the events of the last few weeks, the oppressed and the powerful locking up in a literal powder keg. The show just seems to miss that extra special sauce that really allows it to resonate with viewers.
Anyway with the work done, Melanie and Layton lay the cards on the table. She wants him to be the boogeyman that scares the first class people into line but it’s all a ploy and her confessions are to lure him into taking some spiked sake. With him out he is put in the drawers for knowing how the sausage is made. However as the episode ends we learn Josie has some connections and is aware Andre is missing and the time to act is now.
It’s nice to wrap up the murder story and it was weird having it be LJ out of nowhere. Someone who really didn’t become a player in the actual plot until very late last week. Still it set up the relationships between Andre, Melanie and others outside the Tail and put everyone in their places for the real plot of the show… The revolution. Next week we will be half way through the season and it will be interesting if they find some more stop gaps to hold off on the revolution or if we will get that story now. Tune in next week!
Cue Executive Producer Dick Wolf credit slide.
