Bullet Points: Escape: Puzzle of Fear
I got my hands on a screener for the latest film from Uncork’d Entertainment, Escape: Puzzle of Fear. It is hitting VOD and DVD on August 18th. Why not review it for the amazing readers of Bulletproof Action?
- The Plot: Two couples go to a brand new escape room, and it is more than meets the eye. Who will escape? Who will die? Who will get high?
- The Details: I can’t lie, the only reason I decided to check this one out was to catch up with Omar Gooding. I remember watching Omar on Nickelodeon’s Wild & Crazy Kids. The most familiar name in the cast is Nicholas Turturro from NYPD Blue. The lead is played by Tommy Nash. I’ve seen him in other projects from Uncork’d. There’s also a couple of nice actresses in Aubrey Reynolds and Naina Michaud. Escape: Puzzle of Fear is written by Lizze Gordon and directed by J. Jones. I don’t have a lot of info on Jones, but I do know Lizze Gordon is an up and coming actress and writer. Gordon is familiar with the Uncork’d Universe, because she’s the writer and star of Coven. A film I decided not to review, but at least I reviewed this.
- Escape Room: Escape Rooms are a big fad these days. I’ve been to one. I didn’t escape. However, it was a lot of fun. I had a feeling this movie was going to have a Saw vibe. I thought people would have to make decisions on who lives or dies, and I thought there would be a lot of action as the cast tries to survive the escape room. I was wrong. But, I’m not sad. Escape: Puzzle of Fear is very watchable.
- Twists and Turns: Perhaps, we have more twists than we need. We probably have a bit too much overkill on plot. We learn one twist way too early, and it makes the money shot at the end less satisfying. Fear not, we do have a couple of nude scenes. As you know, get hot women naked, and you have my attention. The nudity is very tasteful, and it definitely was plot helping nakedness. (I’m probably lying right now about the nudity not being gratuitous.)
- The Action: There isn’t a lot of action. This is more of a mental horror survival flick. I do think some action fans will stay interested due to the story not being dull. I was never bored. I cared how the movie ended. We might not have a lot of likable characters, but the actors did their part. Honestly, this is one of the more entertaining films from Uncork’d. I can’t help but recommend you watch it for yourself and see if you agree with me.
Now it is time for my Bonus Bullet Points…
- Favorite Quote: “You okay, Rain Man?”
- Not To Be Confused With: David Fincher’s Panic Room. However, Panic Room is referenced, so that’s pretty cool.
- If You Have Ever: …asked a hot lady cop out on a date as she interviews you about a murder you witnessed, then Escape: Puzzle of Fear might be the movie for you.
